Halloween In Gerstle Park 2020
Fall has arrived! A favorite season for many. Crisp air, sprinkled leaves, and of course Halloween celebrations. Fall 2020 however, is shaping up to be a bit spookier than normal. Our air has turned smokey, the beautiful leaves are falling along with ash, and we need to continue taking every precaution to keep everyone in our neighborhood safe due to COVID. While Halloween will need to be different this year, we believe we can keep the community spirit alive, while also staying safe.
Halloween House Decorating Contest
Like every past year, the GPNA will host its annual Halloween House Decorating Contest and we encourage BIG participation. We need the spirit this year more than ever! This year we’ll be inviting the neighbors to vote online for their favorite houses, in addition to the secret GPNA judges. (Go here to vote!)
Trick or Treating Safely In Gerstle Park
As for traditional trick-or-treating, the GPNA is asking our neighbors to not distribute candy from your door. We want to take every precaution. However, instead the GPNA is organizing trick-or-treating with current safety protocols in place -- to ensure our kids still get to enjoy trick-or-treating, yet safely.
A new idea this year called the “candy chute” (a hollow tube placed on your railing), allows us to send out candy to trick-or-treaters from a safe distance, aka “contactless trick-or-treating”. If you’d like to safely hand out candy from a distance via a “candy chute”, please email info@gerstlepark.com with your address. We make the following available to a limited number of houses:
Here is our interactive Halloween Map that includes all the participating houses so families know where they can safely trick-or-treat. It also includes all the houses participating in the Halloween contest. Go here to vote for your favorite house! Please only vote once and for the spookiest, most creative and best overall house.
If you want to decorate your house, yet want to make it clear to trick-or-treaters you aren’t handing out candy, scroll down and you can download a sign that says, "Boo! No Candy Here. Come back in 2021!"
Marin County Fair
The Marin County Fair plans to host themed-online contests throughout the month of October. Details will be posted to their Instagram and Facebook page. Marin Center’s Halloween Fair Food Drive-Thru Spooktacular. Hosted between October 23 and November 1, parents and kids may don their costumes and prepare to be spooked in the Marin Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium parking lot with family-friendly haunted surprises and activities while staying inside their cars. Operated by the same team that presents the Marin County Fair each year, the Spooktacular will prioritize the safety of its guests and vendors. All event personnel will wear face coverings and gloves and will sanitize surfaces frequently as they deliver properly packaged food.
Day of the Dead Celebrations
San Rafael's 32nd annual Dia de los Muertos celebration goes virtual this year! Through Facebook, YouTube, and Zoom, families can participate in activities, view altars, experience live music and cultural performances, and more. In addition, there will be a Day of the Dead car parade on Sunday, November 1, from 6 to 7 pm. You can also create your own Dia de los Muertos altar and participate in the talent show.
